Does anyone have any ideas as to this problem? A whole day might be an exaggeration but it definitely takes a while. I have replaced the CMOS battery and tried different cables aswell as formatted them. If you do not have any bad sectors then move to option 2.  Download the Recover It All Now data recovery software and run the demo. not everyone wants to do that, and its the main reason i no longer push people towards one os or another if they have been using something for a while. This works even if the error message is the one saying you might want to check firewall settings, instead of a more-generic "could not connect" message. hope this helps you.

If the drive does report properly in BIOS, but not in Windows,  then the drive has lost its partitioning. That is one of the reasons why they make the cable like that.BTW, is the drive buzzing when u touch it?

This may change your boot order so make sure that you set the boot order correctly. I ended up using (G:) because my SSD was already using C: . So yes, it works out of the box….but it's also only useful as a web browser at that point. It is a1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11. Since this problem has happened before, I would try the drives in another PC and see if you can get them to recognize the drives. Up until yesterday I used to have only Drive nº1 connected to the computer, but today I tried to connect both of them and now the BIOS only detects Drive nº2 The thing is when I go into my setup there is no option to fix that.
