I do recall repairing the registry in the XP days due to a similar mishap.

Thinking on it - occasionally the power here DOES cut out..it's possible there's data corruption from that in which case I may be stuck refreshing unless someone has a suggestion..chkdsk did I contacted Dell, and their tech support had me run the built-in system diagnostics everything came up clean. I wonder if there are bad sectors, if not try removing the cmos battery and running it again right upon boot and see what happens. I set it to that and also adjusted the timings as 8 8 8 24 instead of default 7 7 7 20.
